Several thoughts: Pain in the upper back only when taking a deep breath suggests a muscle strain.  If you get similar pain in the same area  on doing muscular maneuvers such as raising your shoulder, twisting and bending it supports the diagnosis of a muscle strain.

If the pain persists you should see your physician in case the cause is more serious than muscle strain.

: You're 5 days into a covid infection. Have you been vaccinated &amp; boostered? No worrisome chest symptoms or further fever by now is a good sign. Drink lots of fluids. Isolate until you're absolutely free of symptoms for 48 hours although smell may take a while to return. Check with your physician as needed.

Seasonal flu: Seasonal flu it is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. If there is no improvement or sore throat is severe or lasts longer than another week, or you are getting joint pain
see your pcp for evaluation.

At this time I recommend applying cold alternating with heat intermittently and taking anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve. Applying liniment like bengay may help. If symptoms persist or worsen, see your physician for evaluation and testing.

Any back pain that moves down arms or up neck needs to be addressed immediately.  If your pain is persisting more than 30 mins, contact your on call doctor. Radiating pain- go directly to the nearest emergency room, don't drive yourself.
