Possible arthritis: Arthritis of the spine can behave like this with stiffness developing overnight and loosening up after being up and around for a while. The problem could also be from an inadequate mattress. Discuss this with your physician who may send you for an x-ray  of the spine.

It depends : If symptoms have been progressive, persisting see your doctor for an examination, he/she will then obtain imaging studies and arrive at a diagnosis. Treatment will then be more effective after you have the proper diagnosis.

See below: Depending on where the pain is, it's quality, duration and intensity, whether it radiates anywhere and what relieves or exacerbates it can determine the cause.  Without more info, I do not want to speculate, but i would see your doc for an evaluation.

i've never had a back injury, when i lie down on my back about 15 minutes later my lower back hurts,if i do not get up or roll on my side it will hurt wear its ubearbale. i've tried lying on everything and it still happens.what could be the cause?

Possibilities: This could be something other than a back issue,. Having a kidney stone can do this since the structures involved pass down along the back wall of the trunk before entering the bladder. You may want to contact your doc &amp; see how they would help you sort this out.

Flex the knees: If you are experiencing soreness when lying down, perhaps lordosis of low back is being aggravated. If you can tolerated lying flat, try flexing your knees with couple pillows under your knees. Also decubitus(fetal) position with knees and hips flexed as you rest on your side also takes extension out of lower spine.

However, back pain that switches side to side and can go down (or radiates as described in medical terms) to the hamstrings is typically an irritated disc that is putting pressure on the nerves that leave the back and go to the legs. This pain is commonly referred to as sciatica. Please see a doctor!

I think that is important to do before seeking out advice on stretching exercises by a network such as this where we don't really have the ability to examine you first. Stretches could help your condition or depending they could worsen things. Your doctor should be able to direct you to a PT specialist as well.

Needs to be checked: You have had constant back pain for last six months.It is about time you consult your doctor and have it checked.Have you taken any meds for pain.Any history of trauma etc.Get it checked as you may need imaging like xrays/MRI etc to make the diagnosis and treat appropriately
