10-21 days fm expose: If you have an unvaccinated child with a known exposure time, the proper quarintine would start at 10 and go to 21 days.If your child was properly vaccinated i would skip the drauma of quarintine and simply be aware that a few vaccinated kids remain susceptable but rarely have a full case.Pregnant susceptable women & susceptable adults have the more intense problems with this disease.

Stay cool: Staying cool, like soaking in cool water or applying cool compresses can help. Products added to the bath, like aveeno (oatmeal) may help too. Oral anti-histamines, like benadryl, (diphenhydramine) claritin, zyrtec, and generics can help with itching too. Calamine lotion is helpful sometimes.

Can happen: Not that likely, but it could happen.  Immunity can not be that great over time and you could get it, again.

First...: ...Trim his or her fingernails (because children will scratch, no matter what you say or do). Oatmeal baths (aveeno is one popular brand) will soothe the itching better than just about anything. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (an over-the-counter antihistamine) is somewhat effective in decreasing the itching, but will cause drowsiness in most people.  Cool washcloths may help.

Chickenpox: Chickenpox after vaccine can occur in two different situations. The more common of the two is a breakthrough infection, which is believed to be caused by a wild-type varicella virus. The second situation, in which you catch chickenpox from the chickenpox vaccine itself, is extremely rare. Second-time chickenpox cases are typically very mild.

Chicken pox: Usually chicken pox is contagious for the first week that they are sick. The actual rash doesn't show up for the first 2 days, so usually you are walking around feeling a little sick, but don't know you are contagious with chicken pox because you haven't broken out yet. Once the pox are scabs, then you're not contagious any more.
