i have a dry cough with chest congestion and wheezing...sometimes when i cough i cough mucus. what can i do or take  to help my congestion /wheezing?

Treat wheezing: Cough can induce wheezing but like anything in an enclosed system when there are spasms of the airways, this may also come out as cough with wheezing. See your doctor and treat the wheezing and inflammation, make sure you have a diagnosis. You can take a mucolytic or expectorant to make the coughing easier, but treat the wheezing, foremost.

i have a cold, in the morning i feel rattling in chest so i cough mucus up and out and i'm wheezing throughout the day.  should cold run its course?

Wheezing: if wheezing should get treatment, as this is not the norm and compromises effective oxygenation and places stress on the lungs and heart. may need inhaler. May also need antibiotics as even viral infections can get superinfected with bacteria.  f/u/ w/ doc

Cough: May be viral bronchitis or cough variant asthma. You may need a chest xray and breathing tests

Mgt: Most episodes of bronchitis are caused by viruses which can also trigger wheezing. 
If you are wheezing, an inhaler called Albuterol is indicated. You may also need to take another medication such as an inhaled steroid, and/or an anti histamine. I would suggest a follow up with your doctor. In the meantime, rest, stay well hydrated, and monitor your temperature.

Can be pneumonia?: Symptoms are consistent with bronchial process, can be asthma or an allergic reaction. Best to discuss with your doctor.

Bad cough: You can take some OTC cough syrup and/or Mucinex. But with the wheezing, you really need to see a doc for a complete exam. Try an urgent care center.

Symptoms: Rest, hydrate, quarantine &amp; eat healthfully. Consider use of acetaminophen, saline for nasal irrigation, decongestant or cough syrup. 
 Her pediatrician can help to determine cause. Get urgent care for difficulty breathing, blue lips or face, marked persistent chest pain/ pressure or new onset confusion.

Not likely: The cough and wheezing after the flu (or any viral cold) can last up to 28 days and still be normal. If you are coughing up thick dark phlegm or still have a fever of 100.4 (38c) or higher after a week from initial onset then you should see a doctor. Otherwise just give it time.

i've had a bad cough for two years and was told it's acute bronchitis 6 times. now i have chest pain/shortness of breath/wheezing. what do i do?

The imaging can be uploaded for review. 
Have you had a CF sweat test? Do you have a history of sinusitis or other infections? 
There are several possible causes and I would suggest an appointment.
