Two diff issues: TMJ issues involve problems with the actual joint which are not normally related to an infection. An infection of your tooth can be either endodontic or periodontal in nature, and will involve microorganisms.  No swelling and no exudate does not imply no infection.

since a sinus infection & a dental abscess can both cause pain & swelling in the same area of your face (near the nose/cheeks) how can you tell the difference? can an abscess cause phlegm, cough or stuffy/dry nasal passages?

: A perapical dental abscess may have an associated boil like swelling of the gum. Also, if you gently tap the tooth with a spoon it'll cause tooth discomfort. Cough,phlegm,nasal congestion are not characteristic of a dental abscess.

recently my eyelids swell everyday i wake up.  why? i never had this daily swelling before. also not infection b/c the swelling calms down afternoon.

Nephrotic edema: Most common cause of swelling around the eyes in the morning is due to kidney disease  from any causes. Get your self checked for the  kidney profile.

i am due a tonsillectomy soon what's the best after care advice , i.e only eat certain foods, reducing swelling,reducing infection etc?

Cold liquids at 1st: Expect to use your pain medication - it helps. Ice cold liquids at 1st - slowly add ice cold Ensure. After about a week the cold may hurt the new tissue, so tepid clear broth, etc. No acidic, spicy or textured for awhile. Antisceptic gargle and saline gargle. be patient. Rest, Don't talk - not even silently in your head if possible. It should be a lot better after 2 weeks. Prepare lots of support.

Need Exam...: Swelling in and around the anus most likely is caused by hemorrhoids.  Infection or std is possible but less likely.  Suggest seeing a doctor for an exam to determine what is going on so you can treat it properly.

Not many: The lingual frenum is a small band anchoring your tongue to the floor of your mouth.  Rarely will it get infected i would bet it is the 2 salivary glands on either side of your frenum.  See your dentist.

Be seen soon: Swelling indicates that you have infection.  Dental infections can be life threatening, especially if the swelling is near the chin/neck area and may require IV antibiotics.  Seek care immediately for antibiotics and to treat the infected tooth.  After you get antibiotics, drink plenty of water and decrease physical activity to aid your body in fighting the infection.

Some thoughts...: Did your dentist give you the prescription for penecillin or did you have some unused antibiotics in your medicine cabinet? If your dentist did, please call them immediately as an emergency. If you took old meds, then you need to call a dentist to be seen, since antibiotics do not solve dental problems, they just mask the symptoms. Feel better soon..
