Possible, not likely: Staph (whether MRSA or non-MRSA types) is not a common cause of dental abscesses, although it could happen. All abscess symptoms are pretty much the same, no matter what bacteria are involved:  swelling, pain, redness, and potentially draining pus. Discuss with your dentist and follow her advice if antibiotic treatment is prescribed.

Pain source: Pain can come from many sources even after your root canal. The tooth may be a fraction too high in your bite subsequently bruising your tooth socket, the tooth may have had a fracture to start, food may be getting caught around the tooth, some residual bacteria may be caught down deep around the root, etc. A visit with your dentist may lead to some answers or a night guard. Best to you.

Non-vital tooth: If the nerve in your tooth has died, then you're right, those are your only two options. Both are safe. Always best to save a tooth that can be saved.

The : The cleaning that you had is a superficial removal of calculus and stains. I would find it highly unlikely that the cleaning necessitated the need for two root canals.

Was the whitening procedure in office with a laser/bright light or the take home tray type? Also, are the two teeth in question in the front of your mouth or in the back, and do they have previous large restorations?

There are so many variables here, it is hard to answer your question definitively without knowing all the particulars. The bleaching gel and hot light have been known to cause sensitivity in whitened teeth, which is usually transient. What does your treating dentist feel is the cause of the nerves dying and the need for the two root canals?

Abscessed front toot: Your front tooth can be treated with a root canal if there is enough tooth structure  and bone support to properly restore the tooth.  Extraction would be needed if there has ben too much decay to restore the tooth.  A crown may also be needed after the root canal to restore your tooth to proper form and function.

The : The diagnosis of a cyst is made by looking at tissue with a microscope.  If there is something at the end of the root of a molar, it means you need to see an endodontist.  If it is a cyst, it can become infected and or expand.

A few days: Once the abscess is drained, most symptoms go away quickly, within a few days. If the abscess is still in the gums, your dentist may suggest that you rinse with warm salt water a few times a day or you may need antibiotics to help fighting infection. Regardless, the abscess will not be cured unless the cause is completely eliminated.
