: I believe that the spacer has 2 arms that wrap around parts of the verterbrae when it's in place. Accordingly no other hardware should be needed. Pain management specialist can inform you further.

A grain of salt...: There is not a very good correlation between MRI findings and symptoms. 'Uptake' suggests the use of contrast that highlights inflammation. I suggest you consult with a psiatrist or practicing osteopath experienced in both MRI interpretation and physical medicine.

i went to pain management today and the dr said he thought i'd end up needing surgery on my neck for pinched nerves.the xray showed bone spurs & disc space narrowing?

i got a ct scan of my neck at the er, this is part of the results, what does this mean? multilevel disc dessication, moderate to severe loss of disc space height, disc osteophyte complex and facet hypertrophy most prominent at the c5 - c6 level?

: The CAT scan reveals wear and tear, which has accumulated over time.  There is degenerative disc disease, and the presence of cervical spondylosis, BUT NO mention of spinal cord compression or nerve root compromise.  There is no finding indicative of a surgical need, and depending upon symptoms, physical therapy would likely be useful.  Discuss treatment with your doctor.

These results discribed are disk disease/degenerative changes, there is nothing described to tell of how sever eit is so it is difficult to know what the extent is without seeing the images. The most important thing concerning the MRI is to make sure the finding are consistent with your symptoms in order to tell if it is of any concern. As we age, most of us have the abnormalities as described in your report, but the importance is deciding if this is the cause of your symptoms. This should be done by your doctor.

Probably not: I hope not because we wouldn't want to discourage anyone from smoking cessation ;-)
unless you just quit smoking and are coughing a lot, which does happen at first, then these symptoms are not likely to be related to your giving up smoking. If no better after self care for a couple weeks time then see your doctor. If you are coughing a lot then it could be due to that.

Depends: Stenosis is narrowing of the channel in the spinal where the nerves are. It may be silent or it may cause leg symptoms (ache, pain, numbness, tingling, weakness), usually with walking or standing, relieved with sitting or bending forward. Surgery is very helpful when the leg symptoms are severe, limiting a person's activities. Milder symptoms may respond to exercises, injections, medication.
