i always choke on my pills how can i tell if it went in my lungs or if its in my air way i swallowed it with no water and is a big pill anxious?

Aspiration....: Aspiration is when something is inhaled into the airways. Symptoms of aspiration include shortness of breath, cough, etc. If a foreign body is inhaled, infection can occur and symptoms of this include fever, cough productive of mucopurulent sputum, etc.  If you are having any of these symptoms, see your doctor and get a chest x-ray. If not, you probably swallowed the pill.

Pill: If you inhale a Pill you will normally cough until the pills comes out or eventually disolves. When you swallow a pill it will normally go to your stomach

If the person is coughing afte swallowing pill or food, it means the pill is in the airway, but they can breathe and that their airway isn’t 100 percent obstructed. Encourage them to continue coughing to get the pill out.A pill can burn the lining of the throat, causing esophagitis.

Choking?: If you choked on the pill, there is a possibility that a fragment was aspirated. The pill may dissolve, become reabsorbed, but if you develop cough and fever, please see your Physician.

Aspiration: Aspiration pneumonia can occur after inhaling liquids.  Symptoms would include persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, wheezing, abnormal sputum, etc.  Presence of these symptoms should prompt a visit to a doctor for evaluation.

Probably not: However there are some conditions which could allow the pill to be stuck still.  Usually the irritation of the tissues could be causing inflammation. This swelling makes it feel like the pill is stuck.  If it continues, go to see your doctor for further evaluation.

The ambulance can provide oxygen and monitoring on the way to the ER. The doctor can check for esophageal spasm, acid reflux, costochondritis, heart problems, pneumothorax (collapsed lung), etc...
