Multiple things: Groin and/or scrotal pain could be caused by multiple problems including hernia, infection of epididymis or testicle, benign orchalgia (chronic testicle pain), musculoskeletal pain, etc.  Without knowing other symptoms, it is difficult to know for sure what is causing your pain.  I would advise you to be evaluated by your medical doctor.

Groin Pain & Trauma: After the trauma, there might have been some bleeding around the testicle.  This blood can track up the cord that attaches to the testicle and runs in the groin area.
Blood outside of its normal place (blood vessels) creates a great deal of pain and swelling.  This can occur without bruising.
This would not likely be seen on xrays but be from physical exam.  See a urologist if not better in 7-10 d.

Get seen: I admire your thinking and proactive approach. If i had a testicular injury, i'd get right to a urologist for exam and imaging. The other contents of the scrotum are much more likely to enlarge after trauma rather than the cremaster. You're right about structures getting compresed in this setting. I'm betting you have a hematocele (photo).

Doctor can recheck: Pain should have a reason. One's doctor can reevaluate to see what the cause might be. Pain is a perception, meaning different people with the same type of cause or issue will perceive it differently, so some people will perceive it as not painful, and some perceive it as more painful than others do. Maybe some imaging studies will be done to see if anything visible is affecting local nerves.

Portect the jewsl: Depending on the degree of the initial inflammation and bruising, as well as th exact anatomical location , it can take months before swelling completelty subsides.  Scrotal elevation may help this. The inflammatory cells and proteins have to get through a few layers of tightly woven facial layers and this may explain why it may take loner to see complete resolution.

Stop: you can stop masturbation for a few days. If the groin pain is at site of hernia repair use a heating pad few times a day. If still not better see your surgeon.
