As it may cause the urine to be less acidic, making easier for bacteria to multiply in the bladder, do not use it to treat a uti. See a doctor and have her prescribe the appropriate antibiotic after a urine is sent off to be cultured.

Antibiotics at home: is the best "home remedy" for UTIs. Drinking lots of water can help a lot. Constipation needs 2B treated as it can both cause &amp; prolong UTIs. There is no documented study showing anything other than antibiotics will "cure" UTIs. UTIs may eventually "burn" themselves out if you drink lots of water &amp; urinate frequently.

Uti: yes, doxycycline can be effective for simple urinary tract infections. The best way to treat a urinary tract infection is to submit a urine for culture and sensitivity you. This identifies the organism causing the infection and identifies anabiotic's which will definitely kill that organism. indiscriminate use of random anabiotic's for suspected urinary tract infections can lead to widespread bacterial resistance to antibiotics

UTI prevention: In females, the distance from the outside to the bladder is short, so bacteria don't have far to go to cause UTI. Drinking cranberry juice may help loosen the hold of the bacteria on urinary tract tissue. Avoiding bladder irritants like carbonated beverages, alcohol and caffeine may also help. If these methods don't work, ask you doctor about suppressive therapy ( low dose antibiotic after sex)

You need antibiotics to actually treat & cure a uti.

Other issues may present with symptoms like a UTI such as yeast or vaginitis. Consider evaluation by a urologist for kidney, ureteral, or bladder abnormalities.

does the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (taken for a uti) affect how my mirena (levonorgestrel) works? will it still prevent pregnancy while i'm on these antibiotics?
