Tubes which are described in this way are generally compromised as to function (i.e., some problems with infertility).  If both tubes are affected, surgical correction may be necessary. If not, only one tube is necessary for fertilization to occur.

Fairly obsolete: Fallopian tube repair was unfortunately complicated by poor fertility recovery and high ectopic pregnancy rate.  When ivf became available in the 1980's, it was found to be far more effective to assist fertility.  It also depends which part of your tubes are blocked.  I would discuss with your OB gyn.
