my tsh levels have gone from normal to 15.6 in two months . i take my medication in the morning  45 min. prior  to other meds and food. what's up?

Thyroid: If you are using a generic brand of thyroid meds you might want to consider a non-generic brand.

You also need to have your doctor check the thyroid levels (t4 and t3) and thyroid antibody measurement might be in order.

In the meantime you might try 1 tablet one morning and two tablets on alternative days.

Likely have: A prolactin secreting tumor of pituitary

essential you see endocrinologist, get MRI pituitart, check am cortisol blood test
then , once know cortisol can determine when it is safe to treat underactive thyoid condition due to the tumor

sometimes meds can control tumor, sometimes need surgery, but it is very rarely = cancer, so no worry there.

i am female with high cholesterol, type ii diabetes, and take .75 mcg of levothyroxine.  my tsh test came back 2.9.  is  2.9 high with new range?

Might be.: The normal range for tsh, as far as i know, is 0.4 to 5.0 mu/l.  The national academy of clinical biochemistry (nacb) said it expects it to be lowered to 0.4–2.5, because of research showing if TSH level is over 2.0 there is an increased odds ratio of hypothyroidism over 20 years, especially if thyroid antibodies were increased.  But you're on levo so see dr. For free t4/thyroid panel to see if ok.

TSH: Tsh decreases in response to thyroid activity.  If you're exposed to foods which suppress your thyroid and then avoid them, your thyroid function could normalize -- making your TSH decrease too.  Some potentially problematic foods for thyroid include any containing bromine or bromates -- these can be found in breads, pesticides on fruits, soft drinks, etc. http://tinyurl.com/ntnqfpb.

Accepted Answer

No: There are no such foods such as that. If your TSH level is low, that means your thyroid is overproducing thyroid hormone and that could be a goiter or other thyroid disease - you definitely need that checked and treated.  If your thyroid hormone is low, then your TSH would be high. In that case, you need to take some form of thyroid replacement med - there are different options for that.

Too High: The TSH level is far too high, indicating your thyroid is not sending out enough thyroid hormone to support your body. Signs and symptoms will be expected to progress without thyroid supplementation such as with Synthroid. Food and exercise change would not help with this.  
It is fortuitous  that typically only a very low amount of thyroid replacement is necessary for most people.

Fatty junk food: The same as you should avoid no matter who you are or what your thyroid level is. The food you eat won't affect your thyroid. Only taking the correct amount of brand name T4 replacement will return your thyroid lab to normal.

You need to eat!: Not eating much can actually make you gain weight as it slows your metabolism over time. 3 healthy meals with lean proteins, fruits, and raw vegetables are the mainstays of a healthy diet.Or you can try 5-6 much smaller meals, or snacks of the same kind of foods during the day.You do need to add in some exercise preferably at least 3 days of at least 30 min of cardio, toning with weights helps too

11/30/21 blood test showed tsh level 4.693, followup from same lab 3/15/22 gave tsh value 1.723. both taken early morning second test fasted overnight first test had small amount of food before. is that much change is such a short time normal?

: Eating tends to lower TSH but other thyroid parameters may not be affected. I must confess that I don't ask patients to fast before a thyroid panel is drawn, but I never only order a TSH, but have the entire thyroid panel drawn every 3 months if the patient is on treatment. For screening purposes I feel a TSH, T4 &amp; T3 suffice and am satisfied if all are within normal limits.

See Pediatrician: High TSH suggests thyroid deficiency but increased appetite does not comport with it. The issue may be too complicated for this forum and it would be prudent to consult a pediatric endocrinologist.
