Tube: Should relieve pain and allow for drainage. Have it checked, it may be plugged or blocked in which case you would require ear drops. All the best.

: This sounds like an infection of your middle ear (otitis media).  It is likely a bacterial infection and there is no OTC medicine you can take to cure it.  Meds that you can “drink” are mostly pain medicines that may decrease the pain but won’t cure the infection.  If the infection is not treated, you risk loosing hearing in that ear.

Pain/fever/hearing: Tubes can &amp; do become plugged with debris.The involved ear can become infected whether the tube is open or not. If it were open a pus drainage might be found, not so if blocked. You can also have pain with simple blockage if the air has left your middle ear. Yawn a few times &amp; see if it pops open &amp; the pain goes away. If pain persists see your doc.

Get checked: This would be a good one to take to your doctor.  This could be a few things.  At the top of the list are Eustachian tube dysfunction, TMJ symptoms, and ear infection.  Have your doc take a look in your ear to help narrow down the possibilities.  Hope this helps!

Ibuprofen: If viral, you only need comfort measures.Ibuprofen and occasionally  holding gentle heat to the ear (heating pad on low or compress) will often do the trick.If it persists, you need to have it evaluated to see if specific treatments are needed.Ear tubes as a kid may mean you are more likely to have a middle ear infection that requires treatment.

Unlikely: The structure of the infant head leaves the middle ear vulnerable to infections because mucus made inside may not drain properly through the smallish Eustachian tubes. Germs enter the trapped mucus from the throat causing recurrent infection. Tubes bypass the blockage while the head grows/E tube enlarges, problem stops. Your recent issue is most likely unrelated. See an ENT to sort it out.

Hard to say: Tubes are used more commonly in infants where they can bypass small,easily blocked Eustachian tubes and allow better middle ear function. Over time, the head grows,Eustachian tubes enlarge, &amp; the benefit of tubes declines.You have not provided enough data to comment. Only an ENT with the benefit of your history &amp; exam could tell if this would be appropriate.Get a 2nd opinion if needed.
