: Kidney infection or pyelonephritis is an UPPER Urinary Tract Infection which is treated with antibiotic. We can treat with 7 day oral antibiotic in mild case. In moderate to severe case, antibiotic should be given IV in the first couple days then it can be switched to oral route. Urine culture should be done and blood culture is also indicated when admitted. Good luck.

Yes: Yes, especially if you are on the wrong antibiotics. Do you have a high fever? Kidney infections almost always are associated with a high fever.

UTI: "uti" includes all types of infections in the urinary tract.  Cystitis is specifically a term describing inflammation of the bladder. Most often cystitis, although quit irritating, does not cause systemic symptoms such as fever, body aches etc.   Pyelonephritis (also a uti) on the other hand is an infection of the kidney causing significant systemic  symptoms.

UTI: Both are not primary choice. Antibiotic course depends on bacteria growing in urine, detecble via urine cukture. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or Macrobid ot Ciproflixacin are usually first choice. Please see doc. Thanks. Xf

UTI Cipro (ciprofloxacin) resistant: U need a culture + sensitivities (c&s). Simple UTI should respond to 3-day course of antibiotics. Did u have a urine c&s to identify identify organism + appropriate antibiotics? Do u have a fever? Fever + kidney infection may need IV antibiotics, also kidney imaging, at least by ultrasound to rule out kidney stone, or structural abnormality. Hope ur seeing a physician, this could be serious.

Call you Doc: You may have a new infection that needs to be treated with a different medication. Please call your OB for an urgent check up. In the meantime drink plenty of water and cranberry juice.

Need  renal sonogram: You need to have an  immaginhg of urinary tract to role out obstruction such as renal sonogram but , if you have a history of kidney sone recommended CT scan of abdomen and pelvis,

It can be: Cefuroxime is a 2nd generation cephalosporin, and can be used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. If a urine culture was obtained showing 'sensitivity' to cefuroxime, then it is a good choice. It is frequently used for respiratory infections, and can be used for uti's as well, but i would like to see a culture result to be sure it is adequate.
