toe injury..how do i know what type of injury it is?

X-rays: Seeing a doctor and getting x-rays will tell you if you fractured the toe or not. If you have swelling, bruising and pain of the little toe and movement is reduced or the toe appears out of alignment, it may indicate it is broken. X-rays will make the diagnosis. Other forms of injury might include a contusion, hyperextension injury, flaring up of arthritis.  Your podiatrist can help sort this out.

Evaluation: No way to tell without a proper exam and x-rays. Toe injuries are often under treated.  See a podiatrist for a proper evaluation. If you fractured it #1you can still walk in it and #2 if not properly treated, it could result in a permanently painful toe.

Blue plate special.: It sounds as though you may developing an issue with bottom side of the second metatarsal phalangeal joint. This area is known as the "plantar plate". There are other possibilities, however. Best to see a specialist down there in Indy.

i have done a thompson's test on my foot after an injury in october it seems positive.i cannot stand on my toes..xray shows no fracture..4 months now. i still cannot walk and  pain though moderate is always present..please help?

Foot: I would advise appointment with ortho or podiatrist.  Although xray negative, you could still have occult fracture. May need bone scan or MRI. Either way evaluation with appropriate provider warranted for symptoms of 4 months.

Sore ankles: An xray may be appropriate at this point to rule out sprain or fractures.Return to ER for evaluation

Broken Bones: Without knowing the results of the radiographs, it is hard to advise you. We're use to virtually immediate results here in the US, not 3 to 5 days. I suggest you follow your son's physician's recommendations.

Need to know: What kind of injury and how long ago. Discuss with your treating physician if you have one. If not, see podiatrist to have evaluated. Then proper steps can be taken.

You can do : Either. I would also recommend a little antibiotic and a bandaid as usually when it is cut down low it potentially can cause an infection. Sometimes, instead of cutting the nail down more, instead i will file the rest of the nail.

There would : Be nothing to work on? When a nail bed heals it can be polished......
