But, you have to start somewhere, so pick the doctor who is  most convenient. Generally, i would think, that's your dentist.

Trigeminal : Trigeminal neuralgia is usually evaluated and diagnoses by neurologists or primary care doctors. There is medication available for the pain and also radiofrequency surgery. The main thing is do rule out other causes of pain that may resemble trigeminal neuralgia. A root canal infection or the warning pain of the shingles can simulate trigeminal neuralgia. Dental conditions or TMJ must be ruled out. Call your primary care doctor first and then get a referral if neccesary.

They can treat chairside with a laser if their office is equipped with one, they can make sure these recurring "canker sores" are actually aphthous ulcers and not any other type of ulcerative lesions, and they can also prescribe topical ointments and rinses to help reduce pain, inflammation, and duration of lesions.
