Trigeminal : Trigeminal neuralgia is usually evaluated and diagnoses by neurologists or primary care doctors. There is medication available for the pain and also radiofrequency surgery. The main thing is do rule out other causes of pain that may resemble trigeminal neuralgia. A root canal infection or the warning pain of the shingles can simulate trigeminal neuralgia. Dental conditions or TMJ must be ruled out. Call your primary care doctor first and then get a referral if neccesary.

A Medical Doctor: Pain from trigeminal neuralgia can result from more than one source. You need to find a physician who is very familiar with this disorder. Evaluation and treatment may require several different approaches before arriving at a satisfactory solution. I would suggest beginning with a neurologist.

Neurologists & Neuro: Neurologists and neurosurgeons treat this entity primarily. Medical management is first course but surgical interventios are frequently very helpful in resolving/managing the pain.
