Different molecules: Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is an amphetamine and is a pro-drug meaning it is not active until it enters the blood stream.  Adipex is a sympathomimetic amine much like pseudoephedrine.  Generally amphetamines are much more potent drugs than the sympathomimetcs, but both can cause serious side-effects.

Primary pulmonary hypertension and valvular heart disease has been reported in patients taking phentermine . Is a matter of try and see but is not well studied .

It is inactive till it gets in the body, where an enzyme cleaves the molecule, releasing d-amp.  That means a very different release pattern, and it is the longest acting oral stimulant.  Some like one, others the other.  Both can be effective.
