Injection of dye: They both involve a needle being placed into the spinal canal.  In a lp, cerebrospinal fluid is removed from the canal, while in a myelogram a dye is injected into the canal.  This dye allows very clear imaging of the spinal cord and nerve roots.

Lumbar puncture: The spinal cord has three layers, the dura, arachnoid and the pia.  The cerebrospinal fluid is sub arachnoid.  A "lumbar puncture"  is placing a spinal needle to access the cerebrospinal fluid.  A myelogram is a diagnostic procedure usually for spine related pain that requires a lumbar puncture to inject contrast or dye into the cerebrospinal fluid after which an xray and usually ct scan are done.

Not sure: I am not sure of the question. CSF leak after lumbar puncture is not uncommon. It usually takes about a week to heal. Blood patches may help. CSF leak does not cause the showing of spinal stenosis on the myelogram. The stenosis is from degenerative changes.

No, they are the: same procedure and you are given local anesthesia prior in both. You might be able to receive sedation prior to CSF testing but probably not if pregnant

R/O SPINAL TRAUMA: After a lumbar puncture, which may be done to evaluate for meningitis , encephalitis or MS. You may suffer from a severe spinal headache and/or pain at the puncture site. If this is the case you need to call your doctor and it may be remedied by a blood patch. If it was a difficult LP you may have a spinal cord hematoma. Either way you need a full exam blood work and a follow up MRI.

Positional: In the side-lying position intracranial pressure as measured during lumbar puncture should be between 100 and 150 cm of water pressure. If pressure is measured while sitting upright, pressure level in fluid column should extend to base of skull (foramen magnum) but numerically will exceed 150. The rest of your question is unclear. Are you asking about a post-spinal headache?

My understanding: is that lumbar puncture may sometimes be helpful for both diagnostic reasons as well as therapeutic in idiopathic intracranial hypertension a symptom of which may be pulsatile tinnitus. In some cases the relieving of pressure during the LP improves, at least transiently, the symptoms. I wouldn't think you would have to be having symptoms for it to work, but if no symptoms then, how will you know?

i've been diagnosed with papilledima taking acetazolamide and have done the lumbar puncture once. i'm afraid of losing my eyesight. will tat happen?

Not likely: With aggressive treatment it is unlikely that you will loose your eyesight but it may not return to baseline prior to the attack.

Lumbar puncture: The only way for you to know how many attempts for lumbar puncture is to listen to the doctor who is taking care of you. Should not be too many!
