how could i tell if someone's depression has come back?

Depression relapse: The first thing i would do is ask the person. I would also observe for the symptoms of depression: feeling sad, "empty, " hopeless, irritable, anxious, guilty; loss of interest or pleasure in everyday activities, loss of appetite—or increase in appetite, sleep disturbances...That's a start.

Seasonal Affective : Disorder (sad) is thought to be related to seasonal decreases in sunlight exposure.  One effective treatment for sad is light therapy. There are many products on the market. One that i think is well researched is phillips golite available through costco, amazon, and others. A psychologist or counselor who treats depression may help with any other contributing factors.

It depends: It depends some on your social supports, lifestyle, and family history -- but people most frequently relapse when they stop treatment too soon.  Some may "feel fine" after a few months' medication and/or psychotherapy, and want to end treatment. However, studies show that people who continue treatment for at least 8-12 months will do the best.  If appropriate, a gradual taper may be possible.

i am using homeopathy for severe depression of illness. after recovering if i stop medication will symptoms come back?

Psychotherapy: In addition to homeopathy, are you also seeking psychotherapy? On your best day, medication will take the edge off symptoms, but the real grunt work that has the most meaningful and long-lasting effects takes place in the therapist's consulting room.

Possible: Congratulations on being a mom.  Yes, it is possible for postpartum depression to return with the second.  Stick close to your docs.  They are aware of your history and will do all they can to prevent or lessen symptoms.  In the end all will be well.

If : If you think you may be suffering from anxiety and/or depression, definitely talk to your doctor.  Tell them about your symptoms and concerns. Getting help is the first step to getting better.  Research shows that people who are treated with medication and therapy improve much faster and stay healthy longer than either one alone.  Good luck!

i recently lowered my effexor (venlafaxine) xr from 150 to 112.5 because my blood pressure was getting really high. will my depression come back?

Hope not: Hopefully, your depression will stay controlled, but if for any reason it starts to worsen, you may need to go back on the original dose that helped you, and add a medication for your blood pressure (which may or may not have been related to the higher dose).  Best wishes.

how much time for folic acid to come back to normal. am 70 yrs, i had depression so ate little food. now eating again, so when folic acid normal again?

Takes time: Without additional supplement, will take some time to replenish folate, possibly months. Food sources of folic acid, include dark green leafy vegetables ("foliage" like spinach, romaine lettuce, and parsley), broccoli, and lentils.

taking celexa 40 mg for 12 years. depression and anxiety seemed to come back. my np wants me to try adding abilify (aripiprazole). i am hesitant, is it a good combo?

Depression ; anxiety: I would only use Abilify (aripiprazole) as a last resort. There are many other drugs to try before adding this drug. Although Abilify (aripiprazole) is a good adjunct to mood stabilizing  meds it has a host of side effects that would make me not use it until i had exhausted more typical meds for depression and anxiety. Might be worth talking with a physician rather than a np at this time i n your course of treatment.
