Time.: There is really no medicine or procedure that can improve or hasten recovery from brain damage. Your brain will heal with time. The best thing a patient can do is to push your brain. This can be easily done with puzzles (crosswords, sudoku, etc.).

Need much more info: Many, many causes of encephalitis.  Many, many different degrees of damage. Some of these are temporary, some long term.

Check with the doctors who were taking care of you while you were acutely ill (or a Neurologist).

Unclear: Unfortunately there is no clear way to prevent chemo-associated neuropathy.  Some medications such as steroids, gabapentin/pregabalin, or antidepressants may be helpful.  Vitamin supplementation with b-complex or folate (folic acid) may also be helpful.  Your oncologist may have recommendations specific to your type of chemotherapy, and all supplements should be discussed before taking to avoid interactions.

Nerves heal w time: Nerve damage will heal unless nerve is severed or irreversibley damaged (axonal death) where the thumb wont oppose the little finger. It will otherwise return at rate of one inch per month. To facilitate this avoid pressure on area of damage (splint). Otherwise acitvity is okay. B12 has some neuropathic effect,  but only if there is a deficiency and Folic Acid at 800 mcg daily couldn't hurt.

There you will find specialists who can develop an individual program to help you.  Specialists such as physiatrists, occupational, physical and speech therapists work together to provide treatment.

Many variables: Many things go into treatment and eventual recovery . How severe was the damage. Was it just one incident or repeated insults like concussions with sports. Was person in coma for a prolonged period. Initially treatment is brain rest - that's why sometimes they induce a coma to let the brain rest. Next is evaluation for residual deficits. Then is retraining the brain to overcome the deficits found.
