what is the best antihistamine for polymorphous light eruption?

Depends : It depends on your individual body.  Some of my patients find Benadryl (diphenhydramine) works well but they get quite tired after taking this .  Others find zyrtec works well for them and can be less sedating .  Still others find Allegra or Atarax better for them .  So you may have to try several of them to see if it helps your condition.

i have hypothyroidism and now i have polymorphous  light eruption  and i've been  told the 2 can be linked i'd like th know how they are?

Both autoimmune?: I found one article (indian journal of dermatology 76:6, nov-dec 2010, pp. 704-5) reporting that patients who have pmle in guntur (a city in central india) are 3 times more likely to have hypothyroidism than those who don't. They speculated that the immune dysfunction that causes pmle may also be causing antibody generation in thyroid disease. Clearly, more research is needed.

i believe i have pmle and read that antihistamines can help. i take 10mg of cetirizine every morning. can i take a 180mg allegra in the afternoon?

What's the point?: Both Cetirizine and Allegra (fexofenadine) are antihistamines. While drugs.com identifies no interactions between the two medications, they both have the same mechanism of action.  Beside, photosensitivity may signal diseases other than PMLE like porphyrias that warrant you get checked before self overmedicating for a possibly wrong condition.

regarding skin allergy with itching and some patches of rash what it the best combination of topical and systemic meds that helps resolve these itching and rushes regarding the name of corticosteroids or antihistamines and others measures you advise?

: Skin issues usually require a direct visual evaluation for diagnosis and treatment. This site does not let us see uploaded photographs &amp; you have not provided a description that would allow comment. Hydrocortisone is a common OTC med that can help reduce itching in some cases. Antihistamines can also.

Probably not: This appears to be a contact allergy or irritant reaction and as such an antihistamine would not likely do anything. Avoidance of the contact agent and a topical cortisone cream may help.  In the future, attaching a photo of the rash may help us answer your question more accurately.

No best: In general zyrtec works faster but may cause drowsiness, Allegra (fexofenadine) takes an hour to have effect but does not cause drowsiness.  Whatever works for you is the best for you.

new generation: The new generation antihistamines (zyrtec, claritin, allegra) are as effective as traditional antihistamines such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) but have less side effects and longer duration of action. They come in several forms and are available with or without the decongestant pseudoephedrine.  Sometimes it helps to try more than one of the new generation products and see which works best for each person.

Depends: Most people respond best to zyrtec or xyzal, (levocetirizine) as long as they don't get drowsy with them. Everybody reacts differently to different antihistamines, though; most people with urticaria will try many of the available antihistamines, alone or in combination, under a physician's supervision, to get the best control of their hives.

NONE : Antihistamines will increase mucous viscosity. Increasing fluid intake and use of guafenisen will decrease mucous viscosity.

YouMeanSpringAllergy: You don't have sun allergy but spring time allegy.You can take over the counter Claritin (loratadine) or Zyrtec once a day
