my jaw is slanted to the right and every time i bite down my teeth do not fit. what do you think i can do without surgery to correct it?

Jaw: How long has been like that? Any recent trauma? Really need to be evaluated before deciding on the treatment.

what are your thoughts? could wearing a retainer that doesn't quite fit my teeth move them to the wrong shape?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Wearing an ill-fitting retainer can allow the teeth to shift back or may push them out of position. This may cause you arch to be misshaped, the opposing  teeth to move and throw your bite off. Go back to your orthodontist or dentist for an evaluation.  They may be able to adjust the retainer to fit properly or take an impression for new appliance.

Question 3

i  have a clear night retainer which fits but not entirely. my teeth have moved slightly on the top. can it fit properly if i wear it for a while?

Accepted Answer

Probably no: Retainers are designed to be worn consistently to prevent shifting of teeth.   They often need to be worn daily to keep your teeth in their ideal position.   If you forget & wear it a couple of days later & it still goes to place, but is tight, then your teeth can reposition within the retainer.  But, if some teeth currently do not fit, then your retainer usually will not help.  See your dentist.

is it possible to fit an upper dental appliance if i still have 6 natural front teeth?

Yes: It is possible via an appliance called a removable partial denture. If one is appropriate for you it will have some clasping to your remaining teeth in the front and resemble a denture in the back. For this to be a success it is important to make sure your remaining teeth are healthy and strong enough to provide needed support. A dental exam should give you an idea if this is a good idea or not.

my newly made nightguard (not the hard plastic type) seems to fit ok but a bit too snug against my top teeth. can this shift or loosen my teeth?

Perhaps: If it was provided by a dentist i would make an appointment to have the guard adjusted. Perhaps the guard is fine and you are getting used to it. But a visit to the dentist is best. If you made this guard yourself it may be best to have it evaluated by a dentist. An ill-fitting guard may shift the teeth. I would say that loosening teeth is rare.

how to use dental floss? i find it hard to use because it slips out between my teeth, or doesn't fit between others. my teeth are not in great shape. is there something else i can use?

There : There are lots of different types of floss.  Try different brands, types and flavors until you find one you like.  Typically if your teeth are very tight then one that glides or are shred resistant would work best.  If you have wider spaces you can use braided or woven floss.  I recommend ones with Fluoride in them to patients that are more cavities prone.  The ones with holders are okay too but more expensive and patients sometimes hurt their tender gums on the plastic edges.  The important part is getting in between the teeth where your toothbrush does not fit but plenty of bacteria can.

Easy to find out: Call an orthodontic specialist for an initial examination (free or low cost) for an evaluation of your malocclusion and the options email able to you.  With that information you can make an informed decision.

wanted to get a professional opinion on my 2 upper teeth partial i got a few weeks ago. it does not fit my gum line at all and is rubbing and catching?

Second opinion: To receive a meaningful second opinion, you'll need to see another local dentist who can actually examine you and the partial. From your description of the issues, it appears that a slight adjustment is needed. Call the dentist who fabricated the partial for you for an appointment.

a bite-and-boil mouthguard misaligned my teeth after wearing it for 2 weeks, i cannot bite properly. will my bite return to normal after i stop using it? my dentist offered to make a custom fit one, should i wait for my bite to normalize first?

Abnormal Bite: Your bite should revert back after you stop wearing your DIY appliance. Wait until your bite feels perfectly comfortable and
normal, then have a professionally manufactured mouthguard fabricated.
