Make her comfortable: Although age is no exception to treatment , physicians will ask the 92  patient ( if mental status  is altered will proceed as directed in the heath care  proxy )  in the end stage cancer , usually referred to hospice .

Sadly, not good: I'm so very sorry, but stage IV lung cancer, especially ones that have spread as much as your mother's has spread, doesn't carry a very good survival. 

But, you should get together with your doctor and a cancer specialist to figure out the best treatment options. I would also figure out overall goals of care and find out what your mom would want. Best of luck, and hang in there, ok?

Verybad: Stage IV  of what organ ?     In general it is end stage terminal cancer , how ever some cancers  like lymphomas , testicular tumors etc  when detected late will respond well to chemotherapy.

Not necessarily: Stage 4 cancer is a late stage cancer which has spread inside the body. But the survival is quite varied and it depends on which type of cancer it is. For many cancers we have good treatments and patients can live for several months to several years. Cancers like colon, breast and kidney can be controlled for 2-5 years even in stage 4.  Others can be fatal over a period of few months.

Quite variable: Stage IV cancer generally means that the cancer has spread from its organ of origin to other organs.  How long you have to live depends on where the cancer originated. For example, stage IV breast or colon cancer is much more easily treated than stage IV pancreatic or gallbladder cancer.  So you need additional information to fully answer your question.
