Not necessarily: Stage 4 cancer is a late stage cancer which has spread inside the body. But the survival is quite varied and it depends on which type of cancer it is. For many cancers we have good treatments and patients can live for several months to several years. Cancers like colon, breast and kidney can be controlled for 2-5 years even in stage 4. Others can be fatal over a period of few months.
