what is the definition or description of: reduced vision?

Less than 20/20: Normal vision is defined as the average visual acuity that a person with "normal' vision can see at 20 feet.  Thus if someone can't see those letters they have by definition reduced vision.   Legal blindness is best corrected vision of 20/200 or worse.  Meaning a person with normal vision can see at 200 feet away, letters that the person with 20/200 must be only 20 feet away to see.

Ability to disting-: Uish an image or object from its surrounding space is the contrast sensitivity.  It is typically not measured in routine exam.  Contrast sensitivity is affected by type of correction.  There is a loss of contrast sensitivity at all stages of glaucoma.  Some feel that the earliest loss occurs in the blue yellow spectrum.  Multifocal lenses can also result in loss of contrast sensitivity.

Floaters: A symptom like that with vision loss could indicate a vitreo-retinal pathology. You need to see a retinal specialist as soon as possible for them to rule out a retinal involvement beyond vitreous separation.

Migraine: Could be an ocular migraine. Is there a family history of migraine or personal hx of other migraine variants? Check your blood pressure to be sure this isn't the cause. The reduced vision is very concerning.  It may just be migraine but you could have increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma), or it could be an indication of something intracranial even more concerning.  You need evaluation.

Favorable: You have early loss with probably no functional damage at this point.  Glaucoma is successfully treated with regular follow-ups and diligent use of the treatment recommended.  You can do well with reasonable effort on your part. And the advice of a good glaucoma ophthalmologist.

Huge list: Vision can diminish by changes in eyeglass power, vascular disorders, tumors, diseases such as diabetes, genetic disorders, changes of the cornea and infectious disease.   If you vision is diminishing, especially if accompanied by pain, you should see your ophthalmologist right away.

Measure vision: Vision loss is diagnosed when your eye doctor checks your visual acuity by having you read an eye chart. With the correct prescription, most people can see 20/20 unless there is some problem in the eye.
