i'm on a trial going off bp med valsartan 40mg to see if cpap alone can keep my bp in normal range, i have mild sleep apnea. the only dilemma when i get sick i can't use the cpap for a week or so, is it possible to resume arb as needed?

: The best is to move to the DASH diet eating planning which lowers BP as much or more than single drugs.  If this has not already been recommended get your Dr up to date.

would low o2 saturation levels at night below 90 for 2 to 3 hours with cpap result from breast  cancer radiation ?  normal lung function , chest x-ray

Probably not: Radiation damage to the lung can be detected functionally on pulmonary function tests.  If your pulmonary function tests are completely normal, it would be unlikely that radiation lung damage was the cause of the fall in 02 saturation.

my ahi on my cpap is normally between 1-3ish. last night it spiked to 4. on occasions i have seen it spike before but it also listed as my mask being off. this time, i only had 2 episodes of the mask being off. concerning?

: These number on the home CPAP machines have more to do with mask fit than anything else. If it is an occasional increase, just be certain the mask is on correctly and you don’t feel a significant leak of air around the edges. If the trend with an increase in the AHI continues, then see your sleep doctor so that the mask fit can be checked by the doctor. Good luck!

Cpap: Cpap ensures oxygenation but does not correct the underlying structural causes of the snoring

what is the normal pressure setting on most cpap machines?

It depends: The pressure is selected  with a CPAP titration which is part of a sleep study. A CPAP machine can be set with variable pressure to adjust to changes during sleep. Common settings are 8 to 11 cm of water.

i use a cpap machine and during the day i feel short of breath but my o2 sat is 99%. is that normal?

Short of breath: Yes that is a normal oxygen level.  See your doctor as to why you are shourt of breath.

Red tinted glasses: Redtinted glasses do not make someone more sleepy.  I am not sure what the rest of your comment is saying.

are there any risks with a cpap machine? my father was diagnosed with osa & says the machine gives him chest pains & dizziness. is this normal?

Mgt: Sometimes this does occur with CPAP. i would advise checking with your home company to see if less pressure can be used, and whether the mask fit is too tight. A follow up appt is indicated to rule out any other causes.

Aerophagia from cpap: swallowing air can often lead to a feeling of bloating
and some abdominal pain.  This can also cause some shoulder pain.

is it normal to still snore mildly and softly while using a cpap ? my machine says i have about 2 events average per night, which is better than 25 i had prior. but i still snore very mildly some times. do i need bipap?

Accepted Answer

: Is the snoring audible? You may need the mask to be tighter-it could be that the mask is leaking some so you should have that checked. It won’t make any difference-CPAP vs BiPAP-if the mask is leaking. It depends what the “events” are to determine the severity and whether or not it is acceptable to have them. But, make sure the mask is tight enough and not leaking significantly. Good luck!
