Atrophy: Atrophy literally means "without food."  in reference to the brain it represents a wasting or decrease in the size of the brain owing to disease, injury, or lack of use.

It is effected by many factors including hydration status, medications, and other concomitant medical problems.

Depends: Isolated atrophy (with no other findings on the scan) in a young person could be a sign of something serious, like a toxic exposure or inflammatory condition, and is seen in dementia. In much older adult patients this may be an expected (normal) finding.

Not common: Brain tumors are not common. Headaches are very common and rarely a sign of brain tumor.  Your doctor can do a neurological exam and if they find anything concerning for brain tumor then they could image your head. It is best to consult with your doctor and make sure that you are getting adequate treatment for your anxiety. Yoga or meditation could also help.

: Based upon the post, there is no confirmation of a brain tumor, findings are nonspecific, and must be correlated with your clinical symptoms.  Cause may be prior head trauma, migraine, cigarette smoking, even demyelinating disorder, etc.  Talk with your doctor about the significance. Abnormal MRI: It is unusual for a young woman to have atrophic changes on a brain mri.  I see you have had more than one episode of head trauma, so it would be a good idea to have a neurologist look at the MRI and evaluate you in person. There are other studies that can be done to assess for a brain problem, including eeg, spinal fluid analysis, pet scan, and blood tests.

Sorry for the issues: Both these diagnoses are worrisome and promise a lifetime of hardships for the child and family. I have seen DS kids have a full and happy life but those with infantile spasms face a debilitating progression and lack of development. Your question is not clear, but I hope this clarifies what you are facing.

Possible: Mri is not a sensitive tool for sinusitis.  Often, the sinuses are normal when one lights up on an mri.  Your symptoms are not classic for a sinus infection, and MRI is better for looking for central nervous system problems as the cause of your headache.  I would ask your doctor for an antibiotic good for sinusitis and follow up with a ct scan of the sinuses for the definitive answer.

does long term use of anti-seizure drug such as neurontin changes brain chemistry permanently in some way or another?? i have been on neurontin 100 mg for nerve pain and mild restless legs. i am worried about long term use effect on brain, is it safe?

Accepted Answer

: There is NO evidence that Neurontin or any other anti-epileptic drug has potential to permanently change "brain chemistry", but does modify neurotransmitter function while being used.  100 mg is extremely low dose, and may have suboptimal benefits to treat your conditions.

i'm an adult with mild cerebral palsy. i was just wonder since cp is a neurological disorder, is it common to have vision changes or eye pulling?

Accepted Answer

Cerebral Palsy: Cerebral palsy is a non progressive disorder.  If these changes are new, you should see an ophthalmologist for diagnosis and management.
