See below: Knee pain is most commonly caused by inflammation from bursitis, tendonitis, or cartilage degeneration. Meniscus tears often cause popping and snapping.  A good physical exam and possible imaging could be used to confirm the diagnosis.

Ortho: consider seeing an ortho  especially if painful.  if something bad you don't want it to go too long without intervention .  and if nothing bad, you will be reassured

Depends: If you have a prior history of injury, the popping may be a sign of instability such as patellar or  knee joint (such as the anterior cruciate ligament).  
If you do not have a history of injury, this may be related to patellofemoral maltracking (how your knee cap moves along your femur).  Therapy often helps alleviate symptoms and helps to build strength (core, buttock, leg).

This is apart from a patellar dislocation which is sometimes confused as a "knee dislocation." x rays, follow up MRI and vascular checks are paramount.

Go to doctors: The cartilage or meniscus pads the knee joint. You may have a partial tear of the medial meniscus.  Since you are young the history and more information is needed. Maybe just sprained the medial collateral ligament but that usually does not happen just getting up to stand.
Go to a doctor- knee weakness, may need medication, crutches,MRI.

Knee pain & unstable: Have you injured the knee recently? May have damaged internal &/or external ligaments as well as cartilage (meniscus). See fp or orthopedic specialist for evaluation & treatment.
