There may be spasm or clonus (jerking) of one muscle or a muscle group and this may remain localized or it may subsequently spread to adjacent muscles as a jacksonian seizure. Those w/simple focal seizures do not lose consciousness. They will be aware of and remember the events that occur at the time. Complex partial seizures may not.

Yes: It can be even more serious if the affected brain area extends further and involves more functional capacity.  One would need to investigate why any seizures are happening at all -- to be sure there are no masses or vascular issues causing them, etc. Level of consciousness during seizures is important, as some "partial" seizures can become "complex", and would then include loss of consciousness.

FOCAL LESIONS CAN: Result is specific epileptic discharges that start at site of lesion and spread.  A focal seizure by definition does not generalize and thus, may not lose awareness.  There may be rhythmical shaking of a hand, moving up the arm, and perhaps involving face and/or leg, and stopping after 1-2 minutes. Can be termed "jacksonian march".  Classically associated with focal tumors, but not always.

Seizure: A focal seizure effects only one are of the brain and typically is not associated with "zoning out".  The symptoms of a focal seizure may be the following:  muscle contraction, odd sensations, abnormal head or eye movements, automatism or repetitive movements such as lip smacking or vision changes. An absence seizure is more likely associated with staring off into space or "zoning out".

Could be provoked: The hormonal issues can increase likelihood of seizure activity, but are not the underlying cause. : Not a simple answer, as ability to function during a focal seizure may be illusory or misinterpreted by an observer.  If there is indeed true focal epileptic activity, a search for a source, such as a brain tumor, is indicated.  And the afflicted person should be treated with anti-epileptic drugs.  If this indeed is incomplete, see a neurologist ASAP.
