Contrast - best view: Most likely the liquid was oral contrast. This improves the sensitivity of the ct scan in identifying abnormalities. Specifically, the contrast stays in the intestine and is not absorbed so it provides a nice outline of the entire gastrointestinal tract. This helps the physician to visualize gastrointestinal motility, assess for blockages and look for some scarring. Sometimes, masses can be seen.

Cystoscopy is an: Examinatiom of bladder from the inside. It will show inflammation (cystitis) and polyps or tumor which the xray or ct scan wouldnt show.

Possibly: The best gallbladder test is an ultrasound of the abdomen, and if there is concern for a blockage, a HIDA scan (pronounced hide-a) may be ordered. This HIDA scan will also show if the gallbladder is functioning normally. If there is abnormal function one can have symptoms even if no gallstones are present. CT can miss most of this, so its not ordered as a first test if gallbladder a concern.

Yes: Yes it can but the slices of he scan need be small enough to determine the presence of a small herniation.  Ultrasound is probably a faster and cheaper method to evaluate for the hernia.

Partial hernia: It means that part of the wall of the intestine is sticking out of the abdominal wall. It is a rare hernia but because only part of the bowel wall is involved, can be more dangerous mostly because it is diagnosed late. Have a surgeon check it out.

Relax: In the abscence of a family history of a bone disorder, the report of "degenerative changes" on an xray study often indicates the wear and tear we all place on our spine and pelvic weight bearing bones. If there are additional symptoms, such as localized pain, then a physician visit is in order.

recently had a abdominal ct scan done and when i got my results back i noticed where it gives a description of my kidneys it states symmetric renal enhancement. what does this mean? it does not state if its bilateral or unilateral?

: "Symmetric" refers to the appearance of both kidneys (i.e., bilateral).
