Thus the knee cap does not keep rubbing on the bones and creating inflammation and pain.

Rest &knee joint support, including upper leg muscle strengthening are the main rxs. Adjunctive relief may be possible from a 7 active ingredient glucosamine product and epa omega 3 fish oil at a dose of at least 600 mg, but a response should not exceed 4 weeks. Wt control is key!

Cartilage breakdown: Chondro (cartilage) -malacia (abnormal softening of tissue) is a common finding in adult knees resulting from an acute single injury or more likely from a accumulation of damage from an overuse injury. An MCL sprain can coexist in the same knee as chondromalacia of the knee cap (patella), but the presence of both does not necessarily bode more poorly for the functional outcome of the knee.
