my lab test results says. bun/ creatinine ratio results 28, units h , reference interval lab 8-20. can someone please tell me what this means.

What are the results: Of BUN and creatinine? Ratios often distort the meaning of raw values. All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that one needs to know the actual values to provide an opinion.

Not much: You may be a little dehydrated and monos of 0.4 don't mean anything by itself. None of these tests has anything to do with testing for either anemia or thyroid function.

ive heard bun is only significant when high. but mine went from an average of 15 for years all the way down to 5. the lab range is 7-25. so something made my bun randomly drop to 5. what could it be? what f/u tests can i ask for? thank you?

: A low protein diet, liver disease, or abnormal overhydration can cause a low BUN. A doctor rarely looks at one lab value and makes a clinical decision. You need to look at all the lab values and the entire clinical picture. Speak to your doctor

This could hepatitis: This could be hepatitis. The low BUN is not a major problem. You need to ask your physician if this is hepatitis and is  it due  to infection,  medications etc

Kidney Damage: Your lab work is consistent with kidney damage and kidney are not working at normal. You need to contact your pcp urgently if you do not have h/o kidney disease in the past.

my b12 level is high, 955 in 8/20 to 1310 in 04/21.  what other test should be run? should i be  worried? i take a prenatal vitamin daily.  my bun is high, by one point. other labs are normal?

Inconclusive: For the most part, the tests that you list are important in the context of what other numbers are. Mpv is a measure of the plumpness of your platelets, and platelets are important for blood clotting. But, the actual number of platelets (should be &gt;150) is usually more important for bleeding issues. If that number is fine, then this slightly low mpv level could just represent a mild viral infection.

Azotemia: Bun, creatinine and GFR are the indicator of kidney function. In your case creatinine is 2.2 high as compared to blood urea nitrogen is 25, border line. It is renal insufficiency. You have mild decline in kidney function. It may be due to hypertension. Please recheck in a week. Good luck.

Bun/creatinine ratio: This is only mildly elevated. If all other labs are normal and you are urinated a normal volume, likely cause is dehydration. followup with your doctor if symptoms persist or worsen

Yes: BUN can be influenced by hydration status (how much fluid intake you have daily) and goes up if you are dehydrated.  A level of 7 is normal.  GFR stands for glomerular filtration rate and is a gauge of how well your kidneys are filtering your blood.  GFR is usually estimated from the blood creatinine level, which you did not provide.  Since GFR is normal, can assume creatinine is fine as well.
