Enlarged Ropey veins on the legs are called varicose veins and they do have some health consequences. Varicose veins do not circulate blood properly, can cause symptoms and increased the risk for bleeding , blood clots and leg ulcers.

These can be treated with either laser or "stripping". Compression stockings help quite a bit with symptoms and to prevent  worsening of them. Also, avoid standing for long periods, and try not to sit with legs crossed.
