The bending can occur in any direction, but a side-to-side deviation is probably most common. This type of conditioned can be either be inherited or acquired later in life and may even be considered normal.

: If there's no swelling the toe probably wasn't broken. A sprain is more likely. Bruises would suggest a torn ligament. If the pain or tenderness doesn't gradually improve consult a podiatrist for diagnosis&amp;treatment. In the meantime wear comfortable footwear,apply alternating cold &amp;hot applications,elevate the foot when you can. Anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen could help.

RICE: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation are the first line treatments for an ligament injury.  I'd recommend icing for 20 minutes at a time, at least twice a day.  Take 4 advil (ibuprofen) (if you have no stomach problems) 3 times a day with food.  Elevate the foot as much as possible, and wrap with an ACE.  If it feels no better after  couple weeks, i would recommend going in for an x ray to rule out fracture.

Bunion splint: you can try wearing a bunion split and orthotics. But if it hurs a lot you may need an injection or surgery. See your podiatrist

Need X-Ray: You may have a fracture of one of the two bones in your big toe. I recommend getting an X-ray to determine the level of fracture for proper treatment and healing. Get to a foot specialist to be evaluated in person as soon as you can and protect your foot!
