Varies: Biological response to surgery varies but swelling of the tissue lasting more than 2-4 days after cataract surgery is unusual and requires evaluation.  If this is happening, you should contact your operating surgeon for an evaluation, especially if there is pain, bleeding or redness  or the vision is dropping.

Uncommon: One out of many thousands, but can depend on the surgeon, pre-existing eye conditions, and complications with the cataract surgery.

Possibly: There is a small risk of retinal tears/breaks/holes/detachment after cataract surgery.  Some retinal holes are present preoperatively as well especially in near-sighted individuals.

Good result: Your vision seems quite good, especially since you also had a retinal reattachment procedure. You may have a slight refractive error that glasses can be prescribed for. I'm not aware of the status of your retina, but sometimes your vision may have some after affects from your previous retinal detachment, like an epiretinal membrane causing some distortion. I think your iol is the correct power.

Yes: Surgery can repair the droopy eyelid as well as the torn retina. It depends on what is causing the droopy eyelid to determine what treatment works the best. Also, depends on how much of the retina is detached to determine what treatment works the best and what the vision prognosis is.  Your ophthalmologist will be able to help you.  Good luck!

my mom-cataract surgery done on both eyes around 6-7 years back.. is being advised laser capsulotomy 4 left eye, does this cause retina thinning?

No: The new plastic lens she has is supported on the back capsule of her previous natural lens.  Sometimes this capsule, which is living tissue, makes a layer of lens material termed capsular fibrosis.  This is easily opened with some yag laser hits (laser capsulotomy) with energy focused on the capsule and not the retina so a risk to the retina is rare and probably only comes from pre-existing issues.

Cataract surgery: once all the preparations are completed and the ophthalmologist is ready to operate, an uncomplicated procedure takes only20 minutes or so.

The : The cornea should heal completely in several days.  The retinal wrinkles may represent chronic cystoid edema. Possible preretinal membrane.  Often an intraocular injection of steroid is needed.   See a university based retinal specialist.

2nd eye cataract: After presumably successful cataract surgery on a patient's first eye, he will be given the option of whether he wants the other eye operated on.  Most patients will eventually decide to do this, but it's not mandatory.  It mainly depends on the severity of the other cataract and if the patient is having persistent visual symptoms from it.

Accepted Answer

Depends: The treating ophthalmologist will discuss with you the means for dealing with a surgery which had complications.  This may involve extra use of medication, further surgery and sometimes referral to a specialist like a retinal surgeon.  In some cases time is the only thing needed as all eyes do   not heal at the same rate.
