Normal: Astimatism is common and can be unequal between eyes, or even absent in one and present in the other.

No: Wearing or not wearing glasses will not harm your eyes in any way.   You wear glasses to see better.  Some people choose to not wear glasses and be blurry all the time.

YES: Yes, I would suggest an autorefraction with a hand held autorefractor, preferably at a pediatric ophthalmologist's office.

Not likely: More likely due to his age and lack of pigment in the lens of the child's eye.  This is normal and as a person gets older and more exposed to ultraviolet light, the crystalline lens of the eye will get more pigmented and yellowed then brown.  This is why newborn babies do not like to go out in the sunlight and squint or put their hands up to block the light. This will get better with age.

Allergy or dry: If it is itchy from allergy or dryness there are very effective eye drops that help relieve the itching.  Really try not to rub they eyes as repeated rubbing can affect them causing more or worsening astigmatism.

Maybe.... BUT: Could get much worse and lead to loss of sight.  With these symptoms you should see an eye doc as soon as you can.

Your retina: Because plaquinil can cause problem in your retina leading to blindness, you need regular monitoring to make sure that this is not happening while taking the drug.

See your doctor: Based on the description you are giving, if you are closing your left eye and your right is blurry that may be your weaker eye and not have anything to do with plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine).  See your opthalmologist for an eye exam.

Astigmatism: Astigmatism is basically due to an irregularity in the curvature of the cornea or lens.  If the lens has been removed during cataract surgery you can still get astigmatism from the cornea.

Myopic astigmatism: Your options include glasses, contact lenses, surface laser eye surgery, phakic intaocular lens implant, intracorneal ring segments, or orthokeratology.  The magnitude of your prescription would determine which options can be considered.
