i'm just curious i had covid back in march. within weeks i noticed mild dysphagia(feels like a piece of bread stuck one side) and a nodule on left side of neck/throat within last 4 days. even with a fam history of thyroidism. could covid be the cause?

: Covid could be the cause of an enlarged lymph node, if that is what is causing your symptoms. If this continues, you should see your doctor to have this evaluated. You may need to see GI for the swallowing difficulty. If the lymph node is enlarged from Covid, this should gradually decrease in size. Good luck!

Ok to refuse: If the thyroid nodule is stable like you said, there is no need for a repeat biopsy (unless the last one didn't get enough materials or if your doctor was concerned about something with the last biopsy). Discuss this thoroughly with your physician.  As long as you continue to follow the nodule, you will be able to intervene sooner if something changes.

i have stable, dominant 10 mm left thyroid nodule with possible internal microcalcifications. what does it mean ? do i need thyroid scan ?

Thyroidologist: Usually, in women especially multiple thyroid nodules are all benign. However,that being said, if there's any doubt a needle biopsy is the diagnostic procedure of choice. I feel that an endocrinologist or preferably a thyroidologist is best qualified to evaluate, treat and follow you. Thyroid scans or ultrasounds alone don't usually settle the problem in my experience.

unlikely: Unlikely its cancer but you still need medical attention.  If the lymph nodes don't resolve an fna (fine needle aspiration) is needed.  A small needle can obtain a small number of cells which can be examined by a pathologist.

can thyroid nodules shrink over time? nodule in 2016 was 3.49cm. as of today, nodule is 2.9cm. fna says nodule on right lobe is heterogeneous, honeycomb pattern. does this mean nodule is stable and shrinking on its own? thank you, elizabeth?

: Solitary thyroid nodules have been known to shrink over time. Thyroid nodules over 2 cm still raise some concern &amp; also, heterogeneous thyroid nodules can not be labeled as benign with certainty. The shrinkage &amp; FNA are reassuring but honeycombing 
makes it tricky. For best advice about further testing, continued observation or possible surgery, I recommend consulting an head&amp;neck surgeon

Ultrasound : better for evaluation of thyroid nodules. ENT surgeon or Endocrinologist can help with managing your nodules.

No: the only way to know is to check your blood test.  the hot nodule  is probably causing you to be hyperthyroid but only labs can tell you that. You will need to see your doc to biopsy the cold nodule. It's has a higher risk of cancer if it's cold. Keep in mind most cold nodules are still benign but in your case, it should be biopsied since it's a large, cold nodule.

a nodule was picked up on my thyroid in 2018 and biopsy came back inconclusive it'd now 2021 should i have had another biopsy taken i haven't been diagnosed with a thyroid condition but i've not been since jan 2020?

Accepted Answer

: Biopsy of a thyroid nodule which is "inconclusive" may need a repeat biopsy.  A thyroid scan may further clarify the nature of the nodule, along with blood tests.

how does someone get nodules on their thyroids?

Just because: Nodules are kind of like freckles of the thyroid.   Many thyroids have nodules and some thyroids have many. Occasionally one of these nodules might be a cancer. We don't know exactly why people get cancer either.
