Hand Surgeon: They are orthopedist (medical doctors specializing in bone and joint disease) who have a specialty fellowship in surgery of the hand and often the elbow too.  They usually do some general orthopedics as well unless in a very large group where there are sub=sepcialty clinics of different  surgeons.

Specializing: Do you mean what type of dr is a hand specialist? Often they are orthopaedic surgeons that had extra training in hand surgery. Many sports medicine specialists, including physiatrists (specializing in sports medicine or musculoskeletal medicine), can examine and diagnose hand problems.

Kinda sorta: So xanax (alprazolam) is a brand of Alprazolam which is in same family as valium (diazepam). Not being a veterinarian, i can't tell you whether doggie xanax (alprazolam) is any different from human xanax (alprazolam). However, xanax (alprazolam) is short acting than valium. That being said, contact doc's office for prescription. But unless you're claustrophobic, you'll do fine w/o any drug. Mri's just loud ; boring and you must keep still. No biggi.

Swollen hand: If there is quite a bit of redness then i would check back with the doctor. If it is minimally red and swollen then just elevate above your heart and apply some warm compresses. It should resolve on its own.

i've been taking nitrofurantoin for 3 days and experiencing numbness in hands and feet. i called the doctor to switch meds. will this numbness if from the nitrofurantoin go away? how can i flush this medicine out of my system quickly?

: If this is a medication reaction causing toxicity to peripheral nerves, this should dissipate over 3-4 weeks after medication is D/C'd.  Recommend a B-50 complex, once daily over the next 4-6 weeks.  Otherwise, change medication and be patient.

Food sensitivity??: although many people have some foods that they cannot tolerate, "food sensitivity" gets blamed by naturalists for all kinds of symptoms that they are unable to explain. There is no Scientific proof or rationale which would suggest that food sensitivity would cause swelling in your hands and feet. Your best bet would be to see your regular physician to try to get a definitive answer. Good luck.

If it bothers you : Then yes go see your doctor. Could be a bug bite. Could be a dry area that splits. You can try over the counter antibiotic ointment or colloidal silver or calendula cream and see if that helps. If it does not, then be seen. It will give you piece of mind.

It : It sounds like he had some sort of procedure for a toenail on 2 toes, if i'm reading your question correctly (help us help you by using punctuation).  If this is correct, bleeding is normal, and they should have warned you about it.  But now, at 2 days, there shouldn't be any new blood.  If he's currently bleeding, then my answer is yes, take him back to the er.  If it's old, dry blood on the bandage, there is no need to panic.  But i assume you have a follow-up appointment to check on this in the next few days, right?
