Yes you are right: Bile duct block often causes pain and jaundice. A liver function test can help to check the function of the bile ducts. Sometimes we need to do a MRI (mrcp) to check the health of the bile ducts.

High bilirubin..: ..in the blood causes jaundice..the yellowish discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes and whites of the eyes. The rise in bilirubin is not lethal; it can be very uncomfortable with severe itching. This can be treated. But you are correct; this is typically something that occurs late in the course of metastatic liver cancer. Death likely results through a combination of many factors. Take care.

High bilirubin..: ..in the blood causes jaundice..the yellowish discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes and whites of the eyes. Trying to stall the cancer with chemotherapy is one approach; stenting to bypass a blockage is also done, but apparently not in your case. The main symptom of jaundice is itching treated with antihistamines, cholestyramine, anti-depressants, topicals incl steroids. All the best..

Yes and no: If it is completely blocked 24/7 then yes.  If it is partially blocked (and at times completely blocked) then pain may come and go.

: Indication for steve  th ing is to treat obstructive jaundice from either benign or cancer reasons. Sometimes to prevent biliary leak in liver after stone removal- incomplete or failure to remove.
It is not done in patients with bleeding or clotting disorder or have ascites. Temporary stent can be placed in chronic pancreatitis and benign inflammation and strictures of CBD. Hope it helps.

Family Practice: A blocked cbd usually causes pain and jaundice. An ultrasound and liver function tests would be ordered if it is suspected.

I am not: familiar with any disease caused by a gallstone blockage of the bile duct resulting in elevated liver function tests alone that goes to your brain called transaminitis.  It may be that my education is lacking or you may be referring to pancreatic cancer in which case I apologize.

Possibly: The best gallbladder test is an ultrasound of the abdomen, and if there is concern for a blockage, a HIDA scan (pronounced hide-a) may be ordered. This HIDA scan will also show if the gallbladder is functioning normally. If there is abnormal function one can have symptoms even if no gallstones are present. CT can miss most of this, so its not ordered as a first test if gallbladder a concern.

Jaundice: When the bile duct narrows, bile (digestive juices)backs up into the bloodstream and you can become jaundiced(yellow)or develop an infection due to the blockage.
