Herpes simplex: Keep the area clean and dry but try zovirax (acyclovir) ointment which has to be prescribed by your physician. Some patients try zinc oxide applications or other over the counter cold sore ointment remedies,however.

i have a cold sore on my lips. i was showering and i started to sweat. so i wiped my face, but not by the sore. will sweat from my face spread it to my vagina?

Herpes: Well, this would be conceivably possible, it would be an extreme rarity. It is not likely at all that she would pass this to yourself. Still, the best advice is to see a dermatologist and see if your condition really was or is herpes and see if you develop any vaginal lesions whether those also our herpes.

i occasionally get cold sores on my lip (around every 2 years) could the cold sore on my lips spread to me genitals? i was a virgin when the cold sore in my lips started happening?

: The germ for these cold sores is well known for hibernating/resurfacing in the same place for a while &amp; then retreating back into hibernation when your immune system suppresses it. It is not like the germs of strep or staph that you can spread everywhere by casual contact. You could spread it to other uninfected people during a flare up but not to your other body parts,your immune system blocks it

No: The kind of herpes virus that gives you a "cold sore" is almost always type I (versus type II which is the typical cause of genital herpes), and lives within your body controlled by your immune system, until there is some "stress" (like a cold) and it can come on on your lip. This may be recurrent (due to colds, sun exposure, other stressors). It typically does NOT spread, even to lungs.

Unlikely: An itchy nose is more indicative of an allergic reaction than an infection. A cold sore should have  healed in a couple of weeks however. Suspect that you have a case of allergic rhinitis.

Not likely: Theoretically possible, but not likely. Usually depends on the strain of virus causing the cold sore.

Low risk, no worry: During the very first infection, HSV can infect other sites, especially eyes or fingertip. But this almost never happens with recurrent outbreaks. If you've had cold sores a few times, there is no risk. To be extra safe, it's a good idea to wash or use alcohol gel (e.g. Purel) frequently and try to avoid rubbing your eyes. But little risk if you forget. No risk at all for genital infection.

Because: you most likely have herpetic stomatitis which is a virus and tends to recur on it's own schedule.  Treat with antiviral medication after culture and proof.

There is medicine: That will arrest the development of a cold sore if taken within the first 48 hours of the onset of symptoms.The spreading around the mouth may be a secondary bacterial infection requiring antibiotics.See your PCP to get evaluated and prescriptions .

: Abreva is sold over the counter to treat viral cold sores. Read the packaging and determine if it is best for your situation. Limit mouth contact to others until sores are healed to reduce risk of spread.
