The notion that a young healthy person cannot get shingles is false. That ave being said, when shingles is seen in this population, the your doctor will ask you a few questions which will help him or her decide if blood tests are necessary.

Yes but rare: Shingles, which is a reactivation of latent varicella zoster virus.  Most people are infected with the virus as children and it lays dormant in our nervous system.  The disease generally manifests in times of stress or when our immune systems are weak which generally occurs as we get older.

Vaccination is the only protection.

Treatment does have its advantages, potentially diminishing the severity of complication such as post-herpetic neuralgia, which can be quite painful and sometime disabling. If shingles persists with or without treatment, it should be brought to the the attention of a doctor who will order some tests to evaluate for a immune deficiency syndrome.
