i had a baby now 6 weeks ago. i have my dr apt. this week. i've had these horrible headaches at least 5 a week. nothing i do gets rid of them. why?

Spinal Headaches: I would wonder if you are having headaches from your epidural. You may need what is called a blood cell patch to stop the leakage of spinal fluid at the site of the epidural. It usually leaks into the tissue but the lack of proper CSF pressure may cause the ha. Talk to you OB right away.

Try OMT: Have u had head trauma? After the appropriate imaging and testing to rule out treatable pathology, consider a trial of osteopathic manipulative treatment (omt) that includes the cranium.  It is a safe and effective method that address any mechanical components of the headache pattern with a gentle mechanical hands on treatment

i'm taking 50mg topamax twice a day for headaches but i still get headaches during my period. is it worth changing my pill to a progesterone only pill to see if that gets rid of the headaches?

Period headaches: Headaches can occur just before, during or just after menstrual periods and are felt to be caused by hormonal fluctuations. In my opinion, premenstrual tension and headaches just before periods may be caused or aggravated by fluid retention and I have seen prevention  by taking a mild diuretic for a few days before the period. You shouldn't change your pill without guidance from your gynecologist.

: An ENT exam would help in trying to find potential causes for recurrent sinusitis with a thorough exam involving ears, throat and nose.

: Urge testing for temporal arthritis which is key to prevent blindness.  Also have your dentist check for jaw and dental conditions.  Vascular issues can be evaluated with Duplex study

Menstrual migraines: See a neurologist. triptans  or Fioricet (acetaminophen butalbital and caffeine) may work. If frequency is more than 4 days a month then prophylactic medications will help.

While I don't: Know the details of your "overdose" of corticosteroids as a child, it's very unlikely it has had any long-term or significant side effects. Check w/your doctor.

Calm: It all depends on the cause of the headache.  Most headaches respond well to relaxation, quiet and low light environment.  Light massage (accupressure) can also be of benefit.  Tylenol (acetaminophen) works well for most people if taken as directed. If your headache is chronic or much more severe than usual, you should contact your primary care doctor.
