Good Food: Good foods for someone with diabetes are the same as good foods for someone without diabetes.  Maintaining a balance between carbs (sugar & starch), protein, and fat is one goal.  Another is emphasizing complex carbs over simple carbs to spread sugar absorption out over a longer timeframe and reduce "spikes" in blood sugar.  Complex carbs = whole grain, starchy vegetables, beans.

Low glycemic foods: Low glycemic foods do not rapidly convert to sugar and so would be recommended to eat.  High glycemic foods rapidly convert to sugar and so should be restricted.  You can do a search and find a table with glycemic index rankings.  The lower the number the better.  This is also affected by fiber, protein and fat content which all help to prolong the release of sugar and don't lead to spikes.
