Many causes: Lower leg edema/swelling is quite common, resulting from heart/liver/kidney failures, protein malnutrition, medications (i.e. Norvasc/cardizem etc..), pregnancy, veinous insufficiency, blood clots/dvt, infections,  and at times cause is unknown. So if the leg/feet swelling is something new, please consult your doc for an evaluation...

Swollen feet: There are many causes for swollen feet such venous/lymphatic insufficiency, excessive salt intake, hypothyroidism, medication side effects, and excessive standing/sitting. Your doctor should evaluate you to get at the root cause so that proper treatment is given. Also note that not all "water pills" are equally effective at reducing edema ( swelling).

No: It's not good to drink lots of water. The furosemide will cause you lose free water and electrolytes (necessary salts) but you'll only be replacing free water -  counteracting the medicine and resulting in electrolyte imbalance. See primary doc: Pedal edema can result from ibuprofen and naproxen use. I have mainly seen it with Celebrex, (celecoxib) though. With your history of cancer, it makes sense to rule out a deep venous thrombosis or clot. Please see your physician for a doppler ultrasound if necessary. The fact that both legs are swollen makes that less likely. Still, it is best to make sure the swelling is not due to heart, kidney, or liver dz

Go see your doctor: Ask why feet are swollen. If it's due to heart or kidney failure, hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) is a pretty weak water pill. If hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) is supposed to treat high blood pressure, then it's fine. But another high blood pressure medication, amlodipine, can also cause swelling in feet. Swollen feet can also be due to bad valves in veins (venous insufficiency), which is purely mechanical issue & requires no treatment.

See a Podiatrist: If you have a purple toe that you think is blood, you should see a podiatrist.  It may be a contusion.  It could be related to taking certain medications.  It could also be a serious problem like an infection or a fracture.

Edema: I would definitely get checked by your physician for this. ASAP.  In the meantime, i would decrease salt in your diet.  Elevated your legs daily and try to wear compression stockings when active during the day

Edema: Retaining fluid is more likely due happens due to heart, liver or kidney problems.  It could be due to venous insufficiency. Treatment typically is based on the the problems. However elevating legs, restriction salt and using compression stocking are useful in any condition.

i was at a water park and went down a slide. i hit the bottom and ever since, the left side of my foot hurts and is a little swollen. what is it?

Contusion: It could be a plain contusion or even a Fr ,if not better in a week will need x-ray
