i've been tested for hpv with my pap smear annually for the past 3 yrs.this year my hpv test was positive.  does this mean i have always had hpv and just now showing up or did i just recently get hpv?

No just acquired: Hpv infection that causes genital papillomas , and in some cases carcinoma of cervix , you got it now , did not have it before, get it eradicated , it is difficult but not impossible, speak to your gyn doctor first.

can you carry hpv virus for over 30yrs?  can you have a negative hpv test 2yrs prior to positive ?if so, does that mean you just became infected?

Yes, yes, and yes: Yes, you can have hpv for over 30+ years.  Any person who has been sexually active with another person ever in their lifetime likely has been exposed to hpv.  This is why there has been a push to get young children vaccinated before they become sexually active.  If your hpv test was negative 2 years ago but then became positive, then you likely did get infected with hpv within those 2 years.

hpv genotype 1- 39
hpv gentoype 2- 35

what does this mean and can i get a cure. i went to do the test because i noticed a tiny bump on my penis?

: There are many types of HPV, some of which can cause cancer, such as types 16 and 18, which are linked to (female) cervical cancer .  Most of all types of HPV will be "cured" by one's immune system over 1-2 years.  Lesions like penile warts can be treated by medication or cryotherapy.  When lesions appear, consult with your physician or a urologist for current treatment.

pap smear- ascus. sent for high risk hpv - came back positive. in the hpv test results it says flag then  a under it. what does all of this info mean?

Recommend: a colposcope exam of the cervix to look with a 10x magnification of cervix, for potential pre cancerous cells that can be treated to prevent cervical cancer.

hi im a little confused. my wife is hpv vaccinated and i keep getting told she will test positive for antibodies. what does that mean. does that mean if they run a hpv test it will be positive because she is vaccinated. she got the quad vaccine?

: Quad vaccine contains: HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18.
It would depend on the test done. If her blood is tested for antibodies to these strains, it will be positive.
If her tissue or a lesion is tested for HPV nucleic acids, it will be negative.
If she does not have genital warts, quit obsessing about it.

asc-us on pap test. hpv negative- 38 years old. never had abnormal pap, never had hpv positive . says areas of partially obscuring inflammatory exudate present. what does this mean. can period blood cause this? please help. doc is on vacation?

: The inflammatory exudate may have been discharge due to infection which may interfere with the reading. The good news is you are HPV negative. No precancerous infection. More info needed to determine if this PAP was adequate to make a decision for the next step. As always, once your doctor returns discuss the results with him/her. No need to worry, but you must follow up with your doctor.

IUD & HPV: No, there is no reason to get rid of your iud because you have hpv.

: Vaccination 15 years ago probably means you are protected against 4 common types of HPV, but you have been susceptible to up to 100 other types. Likelihood of testing positive depends largely on your sexual lifestyle over the years. At any point in time, up to half of women your age test positive. Follow standard Pap smear guidelines in order to be protected against cervical cancer.

: There is no way to generalize:  it depends entirely on whether they were vaccinated before or after first sex; or, if after, what their sexual lifestyles were before vaccination. And also sexual lifestyle afterward; the standard vaccine prevents infection with only 9 of over 100 HPV types. Those 9 cause 90% of cancers and warts, but they can test positive for the other types.

how can a married woman for 14 years test positive for hpv after all of these and is vaccinated. faithful couple also?

Accepted Answer

: The HPV infection had occurred before vaccination but the disease was latent in the past. It is not uncommon that the infection is reactivated and its presence is now shown by PAP smear. I wish the abnormal PAP will clear up within next 12 months.
