No: It is evidence of a prior infection. In other words, it's a scar. It is not serious and does not require treatment. When it is not calcified, we follow them with repeat ct scans over 2 years.

All are treatable: The common lung diseases in children are pneumonia, bronchitis, and asthma. Croup is a viral illness that involves the area of the airway around and just below the vocal cords, the subglottic space. It's not really a lung disease but it is a lower airway disease and quite common. Outside the us tuberculosis is a common treatable pediatric lung disease.

TB: The most likely cause would be healed tuberculosis in which case you should have a positive TB skin test or blood test such as quantiferon TB gold test.  If one of these is positive at your age wou would need treatment for latent tuberculosis.
Some fungal infections can also cause calcified granulomata in the lungs.

: Lung cancer at your age would be at the bottom of the list of possibilities. Cough is a protective reflex the lung uses to move debris from deeper in the lung to expel it. It is the common  response to simple accumulation of mucus with colds or exposure to lung irritants. If you are loosing sleep over this get checked out.

Old infection: would be the most common explanation, but there are some other illnesses that could cause this and be more worrisome.  You need to ask the physician who ordered the x-ray what s/he was worried about, and what is the cause for these findings.  Good luck!

: Benign calcified granuloma is better described on characteristics, a nodule remains somewhat unpredictable in behavior and that makes it potentially more serious.

If : If it is truly calcified, then it means you have nothing to worry about. A granuloma is an area of inflammation or low-grade infection.  Once the infection or inflammation has resolved, it sometimes leaves behind some calcium, which on a chest xray is very dense (white). Calcified granulomas are not uncommon, especially among people who live in certain parts of the country where granuloma-forming organisms are found.

NO: Chronic lung disease can take several forms. The most common is COPD or emphysema. The most common risk factor for emphysema, smoking, is the same as the most common risk factor for lung cancer.
