Sounds like two: possibilities (either or BOTH)...Bacterial tonsil infection (most common =streptococcal but STAPHYLOCOCCAL infection also common an your description is a "match" for that organism  AND/OR Infectious mono!!!!! (A simple blood test=diagnosis

RED SPOTS/REDNESS: It looks like red spots or redness in the mouth, lips ot throat.It may feel painful when person is eating.It may also progress to warts in mouth which are white/grey in appearance and may feel a little lumpy.If it gets worse there can be large warts or smaller warts clumping together and can spread to outside of mouth
not all patients with hpv present the same and presentation varies.

Probably unrelated: Presumably your HPV16 infection is genital, perhaps showing up on a pap smear, right? While it is possible your throat is also infected, HPV is not a likely cause of either "cobblestoning" of the throat or the white spot on one of your tonsils. The large majority of HPV infections, including HPV16, are eventually cleared by the immune system. Discuss all this with your doctor &amp;  follow her advice.

Not looking: Physicians need the benefit of looking at tissue under the microscope.  Also viral studies including what is called PCR will help identify the virus.  Hope everything goes well.

Biopsy: if the lesion persists for several weeks you should consider a biopsy. given your age I highly doubt this is cancer. Even HPV positive tonsil cancers the age demographic is usually 30 years of age and above.
