High Hgb and RBC Hct: Hemoblobin and hemotocrit refer to the amount of red blood cells in your body when measured in a special machine called a Coulter Counter.
HIgh Hb and high Hematocrit (Hct) is often non significant but it can on rare occasions indicate a problem wiht the bone marrow or even or lungs, but these are quite uncommon.

Some ideas: This may be due to something as simple as a cold agglutinin that causes the machine to misread two cells as one. If the MCV is below 100, i'd ignore it; if there's any reason to suspect you are B12 or folate (folic acid) deficient, hypothyroid or drink a lot of alcohol, please address these possibilities.

Several things: Hi. Either you&#x27;re having intravascular hemolysis and hemoglobin&#x27;s coming out in the urine, or there are red cells in the urine that measure as urinary hemoglobin. I&#x27;d recommend a urine analysis with microscopic evaluation to see if it&#x27;s reproducible. If no RBCs in urine, Check serum free hemoglobin and haptoglobin, and have a pathologist look at a peripheral blood smear. Good luck!

Look elsewhere: Avoid smoke if you can, and look for some physical / mechanical / chest or lung disease explanation for your inability to take a deep breath. Your bloodwork won't tell us why. As a pathologist, i'm always urging doctors and patients to look at "the numbers" only as an adjunct to the history and physical exam. Good luck.

Blood loss: When Hgb drops below 10 gm one has to be suspicious of blood loss but can be corrected by meds such as ProCrit (epoetin alfa).  When Hgb is in the 8 gm. range transfusion necessary to bring to over 12.  At 6.4 transfusion and work up for blood loss required.  Can be vaginal from uterine lesion, GI from ulcer or tumor but this must be defined and corrected.  Depending on symptoms appropriate physician needed.
