good day i would like to know if it's safe to fall pregnant when you have chronic gerd i am using nozer but have alot of gas and even heart palpatations will it be a risk or i can it be managed during pregnancy?

Safe: Chronic GERD is a reflux of stomach contents up into the esophagus 3 or more times per week. Nozer (Omeprazole) is commonly prescribed for GERD, acidity, and stomach ulcers. Omeprazole has been found to be safe for pregnant women and is commonly prescribed for pregnant women experiencing heartburn, GERD or acidity. Be aware that pregnancy increases the pressure in your stomach= increased reflux.

bad gerd during pregnancy- after i started feeling like food was getting stuck in throat. took nexium for 2 weeks and it resolved, stopped taking it 
and now feeling that kind of stuck feeling again. should i have kept taking nexium longer?

GERD: As long as your OB is okay with taking Nexium, then start it again.

Yes: Avoid certain food items too. If this is due to certain food need to check the food you consume and try to aviod those items.

Yes: The answer should really be "absolutely". There is a muscular valve at the top of the stomach that helps keep stomach contents (fluid/food) in the stomach and out of the esophagus. This muscle relaxes more often during pregnancy and doesn't close as tightly. When the stomach contracts/churns food, it is able to go into the esophagus, and women get reflux symptoms.

GER vs GERD: Gastroesophageal reflux is a universal event.You cannot belch without refluxing air from the stomach, its just when the stomach acid comes up with it that you can become symptomatic with heartburn.(gerd) avoiding caffeine, nicotine, acidic drinks, spicy foods, and laying down after a meal  can help you avoid symptoms.Many women deal with this in pregnancy and do fine.

Common: Common during pregnancy. You need more oxygen during pregnancy and the body adapts to this. Also as the growing baby/uterus pushes against your diaphragm (muscle of breathing) your breathing might feel more labored. Gerd occurs for the same reason. It also occurs because the hormones make the muscle from the stomach to the esophagus more relaxed, causing reflux. Both reverse after delivery.

Yes: Gerd is a result of a weak valve between the stomach and the esophagus. Pregnancy make the reflux worse becasue of the increased intra-abdominal pressure. If the valve was weak before the pregnancy, it will be weak after the pregnancy as well. The most common symptom is heartburn. Spicy food, alcohol, caffeine, and chocolate can make it worse.

i have gerd and a 4cm hiatial hernia. would pregnancy increase my chance of developing barretts?

Not necessarily,: but it could worsen your GERD.
